1871 – The Civil Rights Act of 1871 becomes law in the US, principally to protect Southern African Americans from the actions of those murderous nincompoops the Ku Klux Klan.

1939 – Billie Holiday records the first Civil Rights song "Strange Fruit".

1998 – German terrorist group Red Army Faction announces their dissolution after 28 years.
